Set graphics mode manually

Postby dhionix_admin » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:10 am

The program requires 800x600 resolution, 16-bit color, and 60 Hz refresh rate. If you set your computer to these settings manually, you will effectively bypass any problems caused by the program's attempt to switch to this graphics mode. This can be particularly useful if you have a widescreen display because the software cannot use 800x600 on widescreen displays due to variations in how graphics cards handle scaling by default. Scaling is how the graphics card handles graphics modes that have an aspect ratio (4:3 for 800x600) that does not match the aspect ratio of the widescreen display which is usually either 16:9, 5:3, or 16:10.

The instructions for setting the graphics mode to 800x600, 60 Hz refresh rate, and 16-bit color manually are shown below for different versions of Windows. If you select this mode and the display looks stretched horizontally, you may also need to enable a setting in the control panel for the graphics card labeled "Maintain Aspect Ratio" (Intel), "Enable GPU Scaling" and then "Maintain Aspect Ratio" (ATI), or "Fixed Aspect Ratio Timing" (nVidia). [Note that the setting may be labeled differently in your graphics card control panel.]
