Software Characteristics

The DRIVINGHEALTH® INVENTORY including UFOV® is flexible – users can choose to collect some or all of the comprehensive list of measures it includes, using either a mouse or touchscreen interface. Online program access by a registered PC is reliable; and customers can also choose a fully portable USB flash drive delivery option that permits screening on any Windows® XP, Vista, or 7 computer.

The software’s reliability has been proven through more than a thousand test administrations in field offices of a State DMV and clinical applications in a wide range of outpatient settings. Because instructions are presented as text on-screen and via user-adjustable audio narration, minimal training is required to effectively administer the included screening measures.

Screening results are easily interpreted by the test administrator. Results–which may be printed for clients’ convenience–also offer feedback to older persons that makes sense in terms of the situations they encounter in everyday driving.

Data management features provided by the software make it easy to store screening results in networked systems, or to import to database programs, such as MS Access, for record keeping, tracking, and analysis.

No single instrument or battery to identify persons who are medically (functionally) at risk of an (at-fault) automobile crash has the empirical validity offered by the DRIVINGHEALTH® INVENTORY including UFOV®.

System Requirements:  The DRIVINGHEALTH® INVENTORY including UFOV® is designed to run on PC systems with the following characteristics:

  • Windows® XP, Vista, 7
  • At least 100 megabytes of free hard drive space
  • Online version:  a broadband Internet connection (> 1 Mbps) is required to run the online version of the software
  • Portable version: USB 2.0 (or faster) port
  • For non-widescreen displays, a graphics mode with 800 x 600 pixels, 16-bit color, 60 Hz refresh rate is required.  For widescreen displays, a graphics mode with 600 vertical pixels (or higher), 16-bit color, and 60 Hz refresh rate is required.
  • A standard keyboard and mouse are acceptable.  Optional:  The software has been adapted for use with a touchscreen interface.
  • A sound card and external speakers are required.
  • A color printer is recommended.

Operating Characteristics:  The included screening measures are accomplished in 20-30 minutes, assuming that a test administrator is on hand to provide guidance and assistance. A quiet, semi-private setting is recommended, where glare on the computer monitor can be limited, and there is a clear path to a spot 10 feet away in a direct line from the monitor.

After the screening program is initiated, instructions for all procedures are presented on the monitor and are narrated, to ensure standardization. All functional measures are scored by the software, though some require a prompt or other input by the test administrator. Interpretation and feedback for a driver’s results are deferred until completion of the screening program.

Program administration includes login screens, instruction screens, test screens, a results screen, and feedback screens. Other screens, accessible only to the test administrator, reveal stored data files and other data reporting options.
